The intro already puts you into the right mood. It throws few well-aimed hits and evolves into semi-epic tune. To me it sounds like a promise of hard times and good endings, but that might be just me, I have big imagination xD

My favourite part of Oblivion soundtrack are the 'explore' songs. They are very calming, gentle and they suck you right into the fields or forest or wherever you're just standing. Often I caught myself just staring down a cliff, listening to the music and resisting to urge to take a screenshot and make it into a "wish you were here" postcard. Especially this one makes me feel like that.
Then we have the "public" music. Not as much interesting as explore but still very good and fitting the environment. It's also calm and cheerfully sad in it's own way.
Dungeon music on the other hand is somewhat dull, BUT that also fits the environment. Creepy ambient music it is. I shall recommend it for listening on a stroll through emptiest part of a city or a forest during nights. It sure would set the right mood in.
So far so good but now i'm getting into the battle-ish part of soundtrack. I'm finding them quite similar to each other, they are definitely less imaginative than explore songs.
And they practically lack introduction and immediately burst in full charge into your ears, which is understandable in-game. The enemy will not wait until the song has set up the mood, they will immediately chomp your legs off no matter what. So it's good for the game, but doesn't work as good outside.

But i decided to feature a battle song anyways, it's my favorite one

(also, just a note, at one point i got bothered by the in-game music.. but after a year of plaing so no wonder.. and replaced all the music with some new one. And put this song into a battle folder amongst many others. It backfired horribly, because it started plaing during the final boss fight. The worst mood-kill ever xD )

Let's start with something classy and awesome. I love this game because it's just simply awesome and the soundtrack makes it twice that awesome.
I suppose the main theme you can hear in the menu might not catch everyone's attention. It's rather drawn out at first but after a while it gradates more and more.. a sign of good music coming your way :D

Already the very first ingame song is very unique. Made me feel like having a melancholic stroll during sad winter day, instead of being on a dangerous mission, fighting nazis. Such atmosphere!
Anyways, each map has two songs, a quiet version and an action version. Most of the quiet songs gives you the feeling of insecurity, makes you sneak and try to just not get spotted for chist's sake!
And those action ones give you feeling of.. action indeed. Sometimes quite epic action and sometimes it's just so weird and unique you can catch youself listening to it instead of dealing with a sniper that is about to insta-kill you in a second (happened to me many times). By that i mean some songs might be even a bit over the top. Stealing away your attention from the game that should be your main concern at the moment. Like sticking a Star Wars theme into an ad for washing powder you know..
However, that isn't an issue when listening to the musi
c solely :D
So the conclusion is, that this surely is one of the best soundtracks i've had the chance to listen to so far, very recommended.

probably my fav song, also very whistle-able C:
